Alonso Wins, After Vettel Penalty Still Only Fifth
The Spaniard Fernando Alonso at the Hockenheimring. Defending champion Sebastian Vettel will be penalized two hours after the end of the race because of an overtaking maneuver and fall back in three places.
Two hours after the race even the podium was gone. The race stewards penalized for overtaking Sebastian Vettel Jenson Button with 20 seconds - and the two-time Formula 1 World Championship Grand Prix of Germany slipped from second to fifth place back. So the frustration at home race was perfect. While Vettel had hoped that Stewart's action in the penultimate round would not be penalized. "Jenson has not complained", Vettel said before the verdict. "I would definitely avoid a collision. Jenson was in the blind spot. I have not seen him".
Ferrari rival Fernando Alonso triumphed on Sunday at the Hockenheimring. "Great, great, great. The car was great", cheered the Spaniard after his 30th Career victory. With his third win of the season Alonso built the lead to mid-season in the championship standings. The Briton Button moved to McLaren in second place ahead of Finn Kimi Raikkonen before the Lotus. Four German in the top ten were at least a small consolation - by then the blow to the neck with Vettel was punished.
